Dojo Etiquette
To learn ju-jitsu it is essential to accept
the etiquette and customs of the dojo.
These assist both learning and safety.
A Rei (bow) should be made on entering
the dojo to signify mental preparation
for training.
A Rei should also be made before
leaving the dojo (Training Hall).
A Rei should be made before stepping
onto the mat.
Likewise, a Rei should be made before
stepping off the mat.
Students should Rei to each other before
training together and similarly should
Rei when they finish.
Students should endeavour to arrive at
least ten minutes before lesson time to
enable lesson fees to be paid and
registration to be completed, plus any
other administration.
Before a lesson every student must
help to put out mats, adjust as required
and put away as required at the end
before leaving the dojo and getting
changed.
Students should Rei to the Sensei after
being shown a technique.
Dan grades (black belts) are to be
addressed as "Sensei".
When training, a student should always
be mindful of the safety of those around
him/her.
When in the standing or kneeling
position at the beginning and end
of a class the student is expected
to be quiet, still and listening.
* Always show respect to your
Sensei and fellow students.
* Show modesty never be boastful.
* Control your temper always show
self discipline.
* Keep your Gi smart, clean and in
good repair.
* Any person injured during training
must report to the instructor in
charge.
* No person shall practice any technique
other than those expressed by the
instructor in charge.
* Never wear jewellery during training.
* Only AJJA approved
Gi's and Obi’s to be worn.
* No smoking or consumption of alcohol
in the dojo at any time.
* Keep your finger & toe nails trimmed.
* No person may go onto the Tatami
without consent.
* Any person whose conduct is
detrimental to the AJJA or its members
may be expelled at once.
All grades and titles may be withdrawn.
* No technique is to be practised outside
the dojo.
* Any person who questions any
decision by any Dan grade or visiting
Instructor will be subject to disciplinary
action.
* No mobile phones to be used in the
dojo except in the case of an
emergency.
AMA and AJJA reserve the right to cancel any students Membership.
